Happy New Year

Greetings from sunny Tunisia! I always recommend to people to get a weeks winter sunshine, it sets you up nicely for next season. It also gives you a chance to sit back and review everything so that you can make plans for the New Year. I am doing that in between writing chapters of my new book. There is a terrible picture of me in the latest edition of "The Beef" from the Midlands championships, hopefully you won't notice that, although I did get a very nice mention in the UKBFF British finals review. I'm heading home soon as next season starts for me on 1.1.13  Hmm, 113, that was my number in this years British finals, lets hope it's an omen

Mistletoe And Wine

So how was it for you?  Christmas I mean of course.  Mine was spent simply spending time with all the people that I love the most and it was absolutely brilliant as usual, many thanks to everyone that was part of it.  I think that this picture, of Caden patiently waiting for Santa on Christmas Eve, sums up Christmas to me, it's a magical time of the year if you want it to be and if you are with someone that you love.  I have been informed that the new documentary "One year on" will be shown on the Community channel (Sky 539 / Freeview 87) on Monday January 7th at 8.30 p.m.  It's on YouTube now and the nice feedback has already started, even though I had 'flu for the entire length of the filming.  I'm sure that the handful of people that slag me off on Facebook will find something negative to say about it but I just wish that any of these spineless "internet warriors" would say it to my face!

Thunder In The Mountains

I was absolutely gutted to hear that my top protege Sonny Lama has had his show cancelled.  He was literally just days away from competing in the Mr. Himalayas show and it is has been called off because of the troubles in that part of the world.  I will do a before and after picture of Sonny and post it when I can but his drug free transformation this year has been impressive to say the least.  I have just finished a new special feature called 2012 and Steve will upload it soon.  The points made in it are blunt, as you would expect from me, and it's not laughs all the way through, but then again, that's just like life sometimes isn't it?  OK, I have lots of busy times with loved ones ahead,  so I will wish you all a very happy Christmas.

What's Another Year

This time of year is always good for reflection and I am currently writing a new special feature reviewing 2012. I have made literally thousands of new friends this year thanks to the Community Channel and YouTube and so many have already sent me nice Christmas emails and I have sent kind replies to all of course. Yes I have had 2 people shamelessly use me and let me down badly his year too; as I always say, if you lay down with dogs you will catch fleas.  However, anyone who knows me will know that I have already forgiven both people unconditionally because Jesus taught and practiced forgiveness so I do the same. Some nice people do more than just email me though, and this was very nice to receive from someone that I have given some help to over this last year  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsK6pORDrrM

Looking After Number One

Great to see England smash India at cricket even though India tried their best to cheat, I've experienced someone who is part Indian trying to cheat much closer to home lately but that's a whole different story.  As the end of the year approaches I am trying to make more time for myself and have an overdue holiday so I have wound up all of my coaching committments except for one protege, Sonny Lama, who may well prove to be the best of this years crop when he competes in the Mr. Himalayas contest on January 3rd. I have a huge amount of respect for drug free bodybuilders like Sonny who enter shows against steroid users and I think that he will do well.  Finally, I want to buy a new car so I looked at an Audi Q7 on Saturday, but the salesman recognised me so we talked about bodybuilding more than the car!  Not sure if I'll get the Q7, I'm still looking around for something more unique and iconic, any suggestions?

New Documentary Update

Ok I've had enough of this freezing weather already, where are the holiday brochures? Now, the new documentary "One year on" has been edited down to 22 minutes for a TV slot on the Community channel.  There is so much that we couldn't fit in but they are doing a YouTube version that will be much longer, I will let you know when that is available.  However, loyal readers, instead of waiting until January you can see the TV edit right now with this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTXd07KtfF4&feature=youtu.be  I did have the flu at the time so I don't look at my best, or maybe it was the stress of a long(ish) term relationship this year that has aged me so much?  Either way, I hope that you enjoy it and I look forward to your feedback emails.

Our House

I must admit that I do love this time of the year, although I do miss having someone to share it all with.  Training is just three times a week, food is back to normal eating and I finally get to sort out all of the things that I've been meaning to do at home.  Today I have a beautiful new dressing room being fitted, then the room is being totally redecorated as most of it is covered in fake tan overspray! Also I get to take Christmas presents to all of the people that I love, all are shamelessly spoilt because that's what I like to do. None more than the Grandchildren though, here's is Lilybelles Christmas present, it's OK she doesn't read this! It's not the first time I have bought a car for someone that I love and hopefully not the last!

Sign Of The Times

Well thanks to a Lemsip drip feed and various other cold and 'flu remedies I'm still alive and kicking and even managed some light training yesterday & today. Best 3 recent emails:- one asking for a copy of my birth certificate to prove my age - thank you! I will definitely do that! One asking if I'm doing a calendar for 2013 - I hope that was a joke?  And one saying that I should try to use movie titles for the blog titles - very challenging, erm, don't hold your breath.  Lily stayed last night and insisted on sleeping in Granddads bed whilst fidgeting all night long so I got virtually no sleep and tomorrow I have Colby (pictured) and Caden staying, so that should leave me completely, yet happily, wiped out for the remainder of the weekend!

Different

Well the cold has now turned into full blown man 'flu and clearly I am not much longer for this world.  Obviously now all I can do is hope for a miracle!  On a serious note though, the news about the new Royal baby is wonderful, as is any news about someone who is going to bring life into this world, and it has once again made me incredibly broody.  I've never been one to live life with regrets but I have to say that if I could change anything it would be that I would love to be a Dad again, I suppose that's why I'm so close to my Grandchildren. All I know is that there is nothing better in the whole world than having a baby to cuddle every night.  Finally, although I'm a music lover (as you have probably worked out from the blog titles) I rarely comment on new music, but I'm sure that "Different" by Robbie Williams is going to be a massive hit that will stand the test of time.

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

I can't believe that it's December already and that soon it will be Christmas again, where did the year go?  We finished the filming for the second documentary yesterday, there's a very brief trailer on YouTube, here's the link but I have to say that I have had a stinking cold for a few days so I don't look at my best!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHWVoip-z0k
I'm taking a few days off now that everything is finished for the year so that I can get better. Today I put the garden furniture back in the garage with the Aston Martin for the winter, this time of year always depresses me. Fortunately, to cheer me up I know that it will soon be time for some winter sunshine and also that I can keep on re watching the awesome England rugby match from Saturday.  Most of all I get to spend more time with the babies, Lily loves her cuddle off to sleep at bedtime, here she is from the other evening.

Back In Black

I'm very proud to announce that my new sponsorship deal is with Only Supplements, please have a look here http://www.onlysupplements.co.uk/ This is a supplements website committed to top quality supplements at good prices, it's also where I have been getting all of my supplements from this year and as you can see in this video http://youtu.be/yFr5LNbaQmw they really work!  I've had good feedback from the video, among others a lot of emails about my back detail and asking for advice on how to get that, well there's no secret, it's just hard work and diet, sorry!  There will soon be more new photos on the website as it will be updated with new galleries and also links to Only Supplements as soon as my very busy but very dear son Steve can do it!

The Futures So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades

So much good news to report! The first documentary has had so many viewers and has been so well received that I have been asked to do a second one which will air in the New Year. I've not had one single negative email about the first programme and I'm guessing that the TV company has had the same sort of feedback so this is the natural thing to do. Also I have been offered a great new sponsorship deal which I will give details of as soon as it is finalised. The video from the "Stars" show is now online, here's the link http://youtu.be/yFr5LNbaQmw and finally here are Caden & Colby with this years celebration cake, a cake that has ensured lots of visitors recently for some reason!

Bringing On Back The Good Times

Rebound training and dieting really makes for the best time of the whole year.  I somehow managed to get down to 17 stone to win on Sunday and I'm glad that I did because as you can see all of the top 3 were shredded, but since then the weight has been piling back on.  I will be well over 18 stone and comfortable at that weight by the weekend, after that I start my clean bulking diet for the winter, my body will appreciate that I'm sure.  I'm spending a few days with the Grandchildren as I've not seen them enough during show prep time and it is the most wonderful experience.  Lilybelle has just gone to bed and she will wake up at 6 in the morning to get in bed for cuddles with her Granddad, I love it when she does that.  Tomorrow I have the boys and I can't wait. I have achieved so many things in my life but all of my babies are so amazing; I am truly blessed.

UKBFF Stars of Tomorrow 2012

So I rounded off the season in style by winning the UKBFF Stars of Tomorrow 2012 show.  An ironic title for an old man like me to win I know but they don't do a show called Stars of Yesterday!  It was the biggest "Stars" ever, with about 150 competitors, The Beck Theatre was bursting at the seams but it was a great show and the quality was immense. In my class the top 3 was quite clear as our condition was much better than the rest but it could really have gone in any order. In the end the judges decided that as we were all ripped to shreds I was the winner as I was easily the biggest.  So like I always say, size does matter, but condition will always be king!  Winning this qualifies me for next years British finals, my 5th consecutive one, but I need to eat a ton of food first before I even think about next year!

Thursday 8 November 2012

Ironic

Here is the obligatory "before and after" picture of Natalie Mayling.  I can't begin to tell you just how much hard work this was for both of us but I am proud of what I have achieved with her.  We have done all of this totally drug free, with no "miracle supplements", just hard work and good dieting, all in an incredibly short space of time. Sadly, I won't be coaching her anymore, youngsters often have their heads turned by apparently better offers after their first show and she is just another one that has succumbed to that.  The final UKBFF show of the year where I will be competing on Sunday is called the "Stars of Tomorrow".  Ironic that a "has been" like me should be trying to win a show with that name I know but a lot of things are ironic, like rain on your wedding day and a free ride when you've already paid.  That reminds me, I'm sure that I was supposed to be somewhere tomorrow?  MAY 2017 - PICTURE REMOVED AT THE REQUEST OF NATALIE'S INSECURE AND JEALOUS BOYFRIEND

NAC British Open 2012

Yesterdays NAC British Open was the biggest ever. It featured Barney Duplessis, Robbie Anchant, Lee Harding and many other big names. I placed 4th in my class, the top 3 all placed in Mr. Universe the day before so I can't complain. Natalie also placed 4th in her class and to do that well after just 3 months training in a show this big is phenomenal. My thoughts now will turn to the UKBFF Stars of Tomorrow show this coming Sunday, it will be the first show this year that I have done whilst only prepping myself so hopefully the result will refelct that fact, we will see!

Saturday 3 November 2012

One More Time

Here then is the official show picture of the top 3 in my class at the UKBFF British finals.  As I said, most people placed me 3rd but the judges didn't. Sean who won was small but had immense condition, Steve who was 2nd was huge but a little smooth, they were both better than me on the day and that's why I would have been happy with 3rd, but not 7th.  Anyway that's all history now and tomorrow I intend to replace that memory with a better one.  I've had a lot of help from Martin Stevenson who owns the gym where I train in Olney and he says that I'm spot on.  Natalie is too, she is just about at her target weight of 105lbs now and is still drying out. I'll post pics and results on Monday!

Tuesday 30 October 2012

This is England

So, after my last blog, it transpired that on Saturday just gone Barney Duplessis (pictured) walked out of the UKBFF and entered the NABBA Mr. England, he won his class and also the overall!  This came as no surprise to a lot of people and we were all extremely pleased for him.  I just wonder what repercussions there will be for British bodybuilding from his actions, only time will tell.  On a smaller scale, prep is going well for Sunday's British Open which I will try to win for a second time.  I have to say though that my focus has been more on prepping Natalie and it shows because she looks great.  In 3 months she has changed from gym rat into serious competitor.  She is totally drug free but as all the drug free shows are over for the year we decided to throw her in very much at the deep end, a British open for your first show is outrageous but she wouldn't be there if I didn't think she looked good enough.  She does; in fact she looks amazing and I will post contest pics on here next week!

Saturday 27 October 2012

One week

Although it's been 7 days now the complaints about last weekend's show grow louder every day.  One last thing that I will say is that it is the general opinion that Barney Duplessis was the man who got the roughest deal and I agree.  Barney competed with me in my first show, I was impressed then because he looked great but last weekend he was nothing short of awesome.....and they placed him 4th!?  It's time to draw a line now and forget it, tomorrow is the NABBA England, I placed 4th last year but I'm not competing tomorrow, instead I will do the NAC British Open next Sunday, along with my protege Natalie who will compete in her first show. Finally, here are Colby and Lilybelle in the Halloween outfits that Granddad bought them this week!

UKBFF British final 2012 (2)

This years UKBFF British finals was the biggest ever, but walking around talking to everyone as I always do at shows it became very clear that there were also more complaints than ever this year. Complaints about the organisation, the format, even the DJ who messed up so many people's routines. But most of all it was the judging and "political agendas" that people were unhappy with, even the overall was controversial. My advice is get over it, I have, it's history now. I won't even complain about the soft porn bikini classes (yes they have 2 now!) that have no place at a bodybuilding show. Instead, I am delighted to say that I had 5 friends who all won British titles. Nina Ross (pictured) set a whole new standard in the Bodyfitness, Jack Stokely is massive and won the juniors, Joel Wright won the 70 kilos looking immense, Ricardo Correa won the 90 kilos and should have won the overall and  Daz Ball finally won the super heavies, long overdue, well done big fella!

UKBFF British final 2012

Well despite being in the biggest and best condition of my career I only placed 7th in the UKBFF British finals. Looking around in the pump up area I felt that I would place 3rd, was certain that I was in the top 3 at least, and everyone else thought so too but it wasn't to be. There is a theory that certain people were upset by the honesty of my much watched documentary and that I would be made to pay for being so honest. I don't necessarily subscribe to  that, but that was always a risk that I was prepared to take. This year I have achieved an all time record of upsetting people by telling the truth and next year I will try even harder to do exactly the same. The highlight of the weekend so far has been  meeting one of my bodybuilding idols, Shawn Ray.  Spending 10 precious minutes shooting the breeze with one of the all time greats was both surreal and highly educational.

Crazy

Sometimes I watch the news with a sense of incredulity. Today I hear about a policeman who tasered a blind man because he thought his white stick was a Samurai sword, disgusting; and the Serbian FA refusing to take the blame for the blatantly racist way that Dany Rose was treated last night. Danny is a lovely bloke and he is much loved by us Tottenham fans, I hope that the Serbians are booted out of the competition.  Meanwhile little old me is looking forward to a really tough long weekend at the British finals, I'm in better shape than my last show, my winners pictures from that day, by Adrian Woolley, will be added to the gallery soon, meanwhile here's one of them.

Fight For The Right

A great night of British boxing on Saturday. James DeGale worked hard for his victory and then revealed he had been doing 15 15 sprint training for his fitness, a very tough modern version of lamp post training that I was doing 30 years ago! Chris Eubank also progressed well on his journey, but I wish that people would stop calling him "Junior". Although I doubt that he will ever be as good as his Dad was he is a boxer in his own right. The big fella David Price, after retiring the joke that is Audrey Harrison, is now going to fight Matt Skelton. Matt is a local hero around these parts, I've met him many times, he's a nice bloke and I will go and cheer him on but my money will be on Price, who will in time have a great title shot against one of the Klitschko's. Finally, had a great workout with Amrit on Saturday, he is already having a productive off season and I always enjoy working with him. He has invited me to his parents home for an authentic home made curry as soon as I've finished dieting, I confidently predict that will win "best meal of the year" this year!

Where Does The Time Go?

There are actually some good things about intensive show prep.  One of them is that as I spend so many hours doing boring low intensity cardio on my recumbent bike in my conservatory at home, I can catch up on all the recent TV that I've missed.  I have LG HD TV's in every room of the house not as an indulgence but because it can be useful. So I am happy to see that Charlie Sheen, my hero, is doing really well with his excellent new series "Anger Management" whilst the once great but now pitiful and woeful "Two and a Half Men" dies an embarrassing slow, painful death without him. Also, well done Sky Atlantic, "The British" is an excellent series, well apart from that fat, bald, Irishman Terry Wogan popping up a couple of times to talk nonsense. Finally, today was the best day of the week as I spent most of it with Natalie and Colby.  He will be three years old tomorrow, where does the time go?  Here is my gorgeous baby Grandson with his Birthday present from Granddad, a spiderman motor bike and crash helmet!

Wednesday 10 October 2012

Glad All Over

There's nothing like winning a show to make you feel good about everything but right now I am on top of the world for a few other reasons too. First of all my lower back is pain free for the first time this year thanks to my Physio Alan Dryer (I will resist the obvious "pain in the arse for 5 months" joke that you are all making up right now). Secondly, Natalie Mayling will compete in her first show in less than 4 weeks, her progress has been phenomenal. And finally because Adrian Wooley, a really good photographer http://www.ajsphotos.com/  did some great pics of me when I came off stage on Sunday which showed that my condition was pretty good after all. It will need to be better for the finals though, this year only the top 6 in the UK will make it through to the Sunday show which means that with me now at 53, in a year when the standard and quality has gone through the roof, I have to at least match my best ever showing just to get through to the Sunday, something that I have never failed to do before.  Bring it on, I never back down!

Monday 8 October 2012

Let's go round again

So after spending almost a year saying that I would never compete again and after just   four weeks of preparation, yesterday I won my division at the UKBFF Midlands show and qualified for my fourth consecutive British final. I dried out quite well in the end and weighed in at 17 stone 4 lbs which I was pleased with, I'll post a pic when I have one. It's all about condition though and I might even go into the finals at under 17 stone in a bid to be as shredded as possible. That means that after just one recovery meal yesterday I'm straight back on the diet getting ready for October 20th when I will try to improve on last years 6th place. No rest etc as the saying goes but right now I'm the happiest that I've been all year and I'm enjoying life.  Now, have a look at the new special feature http://www.kevanwilson.com/NotaSocialEvent.pdf
although it is a bit of a rant I actually wrote it on my Ipad whilst sitting around a pool in Egypt with a long cold drink, was that really only just over a month ago?

Saturday 6 October 2012

Hot Legs

At the last minute (as usual) the legs have decided that they will join in with the whole "get shredded" thing. This is due to a combination of thermogenic leg training and a change to the way that I am drying out. As I'm nowhere near as ripped as usual I've had to do a few things differently this time, no diuretics but extra Vitamin C and I also found a pack of dandelion root tablets in my kitchen, which I don't even remember buying, so I have been swallowing those regularly too. I have another 24 hours to dry out and I'm not carbing up except for a few bananas today and a chicken biryani tonight.  I'm looking forward to tomorrow now, I think that I might have half a chance of getting my 4th consecutive Britain qualification and for the first time my gorgeous Daughter Natalie will be coming to watch her Dad compete so I really want to make her proud.

Thursday 4 October 2012

Need a little time

OK let's be brutally honest as usual, I'm not going to be anywhere near my best for Sunday, this picture proves that.  So here's the plan, cardio up to and including Friday morning, diet up to and including Saturday night, no carb up and just work hard enough on stage on Sunday to at least qualify for my 4th consecutive UKBFF British final.  I don't expect to win, the quality and standard these days is far too high for anyone that hasn't dieted for longer than 4 weeks to win a regional title. Eddie always said that I could do it in 6 weeks though as I'm reasonably lean all year round so if I can just get through Sunday then I have 2 more weeks and by that time the real me should be on stage.  Finally, a quick mention about Stoptober, which is a 28 day "quit smoking" challenge.  Smoking is a disgusting habit that makes your teeth black, your breath stink and damages your whole body, it also killed my Mum.  If you are a smoker then take up the challenge and stop!

Monday 1 October 2012

Funky Cold Medina(h)

The UKBFF show at Leamington Spa yesterday was of the highest quality as usual.  Sean didn't place in the top four this time but he did look the best he has ever looked in his life so he couldn't do more than that and now, with his first season complete, we start the work for next year.  My good friend Richie Goodwin (pictured) placed second in an incredibly close under 80 kilos division, the winner was impressive though as was Joel Wright who won the under 70 kilos, he weighed "a buck and half" as the Americans would say yet looked like a monster which proves that what the scales say really means nothing at all, I wish that more people would realise that. Finally, talking of Americans, how must they be feeling today after a Ryder cup comeback by Europe that had "Seve" written all over it.  I'm sure that he is still smiling up in heaven.

Thursday 27 September 2012

9 Days Of Rain

Note to self, never again try to do 3 months show prep in 4 weeks. If I'm honest it's kicking my arse but failure is not a word that is in my vocabulary and I fully intend to be on stage in Birmingham on October 7th. My top half is coming through as you can see and my six pack is a permanent feature but my legs are a week behind so I will diet right up to show time and not bother to carb up, I'm usually the biggest but condition is more important than size as I always tell people. Even doing this it is clear that I am going to go in much heavier than ever before, my target after drying out will be 111 Kilos so it should be interesting to say the least. Finally, Megan Stammers is not an abducted child, 15 is the new 21, so if everyone was to stop treating her like one and stop talking about bringing her home then she would get in touch. Just tell her that if she is happy she will be left alone!

Sunday 23 September 2012

Back to black

So Sean and I did our posing practice together and as you can see from the pic his condition is way better than mine.  I’m supposed to only be a week behind him so extreme measures are called for. That will mean carbs down to 50 grams per day and the introduction of night cardio, which is when you go to bed at 9, get up at 2 and pound the pavements for an hour in the blackness of the night when the air doesn’t stink, before going back to bed for another 4 hours sleep, after which a “normal” day begins!  In case you missed it and due to popular demand, the documentary is going to be shown again this coming Tuesday, September 25th at 9pm on The Community Channel. Finally, how ridiculous that an MP is going to lose his job because he called a copper a pleb. Are people really that soft these days? The saying about sticks and stones springs readily to mind!

Friday 21 September 2012

These are the days of our lives

Firstly, my apologies for the web site crashing yesterday and my thanks to Steve for fixing it. Show prep is going well and tomorrow Sean and I will pose together so that we can compare condition.  His show is a week before the one that I am hoping to do so the pics will tell a story, if he doesn't make me look too out of shape I might even put one of them on the next blog! The only other person that I've worked with and who will compete again this year will be Delyth who will soon do her first UKBFF British final and will do well I am certain.  Finally, Caden was 5 on Tuesday, where did that time go? He has also started "big school" and a few days ago Natalie unexpectedly presented him to me in his first school uniform.  Not much makes a big man cry but I'm proud to say that I picked him up and cuddled him as tears rolled down my face, he really is an amazing young man!

Monday 17 September 2012

Love is a banquet on which we feed

*Prep update*  Sean is ahead of schedule so he is now going to do the Leamington Spa show at the end of the month.  He has a bit of a cortisol problem but we think that we have solved that and I'm expecting him to look ready by the time this Saturday's inspection comes around.  My prep is going well, a week away solved my cortisol problem and it won't come back even though someone (guess who) is trying to make that happen. I came back from Egypt weighing 18 st 2lbs and I am already down to 17st 8lbs. The diet is kicking in now but the hunger in my tummy is nothing compared to the hunger that I have to prove that at 53 I can still compete at the top level in a sport where the quality and standard seems to improve at every show.

Wednesday 12 September 2012

Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

My time in Egypt was great, the comments about my physique were all very nice as usual but I was asked so many times "when are you competing again?" It made me realise again, as I have said so many times before, that competition bodybuilding really is like the "Hotel California", you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave. My first job now I'm back is to finish prepping Sean for his second show, the UKBFF qualifier in Birmingham on October 7th, I have decided that I will prep myself at the same time and see where we go from there. That means intensive prep, a million car park lunges and no social life from now until then, a prisoner of war so to speak. I know it's crazy and some are already asking me why as I have nothing more to prove. Well as my good friend Tommo (pictured) once told me "we can't stop, we are bodybuilders and this is what we do!"

Life in "The bay of the leader"

This place is quite surreal, a string of luxurious hotels flanked on one side by the Red Sea and the other by the Sinai Desert. It is a usual holiday for me, people asking for diet and training advice, others wanting photos with me, it's still very flattering and enjoyable. The one worrying thing out here though is that they sell steroids cheaply over the counter in all the pharmacies. I have had some people ask me what they should buy, my answer is none of them. Aside from the fact that those who have asked are too young to be taking them, if you are going to go on the gear make sure that you get it from a proven reputable supplier. If not, what you are buying could be counterfeit at best or dangerous, even fatal at worst. Think about it, you are putting this stuff into your body after all!

Tuesday 4 September 2012

Another holiday?

Blogging today from Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt! I've already had loads of feedback from the documentary, all positive and good, so thanks for that. The occasional negative stuff will eventually come of course, from people who's bravery and intellect extends no further than slagging me off on Facebook, all borne of jealousy of course. I call it "motorcycle emptiness", listen to that song and you will see why.  It's great here and the Egyptians love bodybuilders so I'm having a brilliant time. Sorry if I've not yet replied to your email or YouTube comment, I will do it as soon as I get home.

Choose your poison?

Email of the week this week came from a lady(?) who strongly disagreed with steroid use of any kind but felt that it was acceptable to go out and get wrecked on booze & cocaine and end up spending the night in a hotel with a stranger because "thats what made her the person that she is".  She was by no means a youngster either, I guess I don't really understand the modern world but hopefully tomorrows documentary will help address exactly that kind of issue. My break up with my ex girlfriend came after the ITC had approved the programme for broadcast so unfortunately she has not been edited out of it.  I hope that this doesn't spoil your enjoyment of it, please email me your feedback to mail@kevanwilson.com

Expendable? No, irreplaceable!

If the idea of a movie is to temporarily suspend belief and live in a fantasy world then "Expendables 2" is the perfect movie. Ignore the opinions of any snotty, high brow, self righteous friends and family and go and be amazed!  All the old guys are there and they are as great as ever, all action and taking the piss out of each other and themselves, just like real men do. Arnie steals the show again, "quelle surprise" as anyone with a joke French accent would say!  Finally, I had to laugh ironically at the other programmes on the same Sky planner page as Saturday nights documentary, not everyone will understand why but those that know certain things definitely will!

A one month transformation

I have been working with my latest protege Natalie for exactly one month and as you can see the progress is amazing.  She has responded well to rough and aggressive training, in fact she loves it!  Her diet consists of regular intakes of animal protein, very low carbs and no fats or oils. She is totally drug free and uses no weight reducing drugs, laxatives, herbal teas or modern "miracle" supplements of any kind, just the basic old school stuff that I believe in.  It is a tough regime, some women would have run away from it for something easier, but the results are something that you would never get doing a lifetime of pilates, spinning, body balance or other such nonsense.  She will compete of course, at this rate maybe even this year.  I hope that everyone, not just women, can take inspiration from this young girls achievement.  MAY 2017 - PICTURE REMOVED AT THE REQUEST OF NATALIE'S INSECURE AND JEALOUS BOYFRIEND

In the words of the bard

I receive nice emails from all over the world every day asking for advice. Yesterday I got one from a father in Ireland asking how he could check if his 30 year old daughter was taking laxatives because she couldn't handle dieting. I told him to take her out in the car for over an hour and see if she started panicking for the toilet, that's usually a giveaway. More importantly though, I told him that at that age she was old enough to  make her own decisions and that he shouldnt be controlling her.  Obviously I wont hear from him again but I always tell people the truth, even if they dont like it and don't have the guts to accept it.  As the saying goes, "above all, be true unto thine self"

Its not about the bike

I have to say that I have complete sympathy for Lance Armstrong. He has never tested positive but he has clearly upset some of the very narrow minded people who pull all the strings in his world. And even if he did do any of the things that he is accused of then isn't he just the same as all the rest except better in so many other ways? A friend of mine once competed at the highest level in cycling and told me that things like EPO were as "compulsory" as the masking drugs!  I'm not into cycling but Lance is still a hero of mine for what he has achieved and, especially since I lost my Mum to cancer, for what his "Livestrong" foundation does for cancer sufferers. I can totally understand that he isn't even going to argue about things anymore, there comes a time when you have to leave the stress and drama to the little people and just get on with your life!

Dedication, that's the name of the game

After the disappointment of having to let Danny go (he was like a son to me) I was very happy when I produced this before and after comparison picture of Amrit, who placed 4th in Sunday's show.  Amrit joined the team quite late this year so I did not coach him during the crucial bulking up phase last winter except for a few workouts where he joined Danny and I.  The knock on effect of that was that he had to diet incredibly hard to get into condition during the 3 months that I was prepping him for his show. I am proud to say that he met the challenge head on and never complained once, unlike some, and as a result he has made a huge amount of progress this year.  Now that I have him firmly under my wing I am expecting him to do very well next year and challenge for some 70 kilo titles!

Never say never

Well after being so busy prepping people it will be nice to be at a show this weekend where I have nobody competing.  It is the Kent Klassic in Gravesend and I have to say that I have been secretly dieting over the last few weeks as I thought about competing again.  I've kept quiet about it because I don't talk it unless I'm sure that I can walk it and as you can see from the pic I'm nowhere near ready and still covered in cortisol from recent issues in my private life.  The show is run by two of the nicest people in the UKBFF, Bill and Sarah Bridges, who have always been very nice to me and I always go along to support the event.  But if my class is won by someone who deosn't look much better than I do here then I will be very tempted to do another show very soon!

Time to say goodbye

The results from the NPA Midlands. Well Danny took it upon himself to ignore me completely and do his own prep and in his words "missed the weight" - by 2 kilos! This meant that he competed at middleweight and was of course blown away, he is a good lightweight at most but never a middleweight. It's not the first time he has ignored me and although I gave him a second chance he certainly won't get a third.  I wish him all the best for the future without me. Amrit just missed out on a place but was happy as he has made an amazing transformation in the last year, when I have show pictures I will do an impressive before and after comparison photo. I am looking forward to a tough off season bulking him up, ready to do even better next year!

Wild Thing!

Just a quickie today especially for those people who read this for all the wrong reasons.  Just remember, there are two sides to every story and wild animals don't attack unless they are provoked!

Save the best until last

I have now finally got round to seeing just about everyone that I have missed over the last 6 months.  Far too many to mention by name here but you won't be surprised at the title of todays blog when you look at the photo.  It's no secret that I love children, espcially when they are babies. Well this is Reggie, the baby boy of my very good friends Eddie and Louisa.  Reggie is only 5 months old and already looks like his gentle giant of a dad with his mums blue eyes and blonde hair, I actually couldn't put him down! Back in bodybuilding land the action moves to the NPA Midlands show on Sunday, Danny and Amrit are ready and look at their best ever so bring it on!

Bad day at Manchester

Well yesterday's BNBF Manchester show turned out to be a big disappointment for Marzio, Danny and all of us that made the long journey to support them. Marzio placed 4th in his first show and Danny was 6th. Ordinarily they would not be viewed as bad results but we felt that both should have done better and that Marzio was a clear winner.  He has taken it rather badly and now will probably not compete again this season.  Danny was also very low afterwards but will go to Stratford on Avon this coming weekend for the NPA show where he won the juniors last year, this year he will compete in the 70kg class. Amrit will also be competing in the same class so we are hoping for a better weekend!

Time to unleash the beast

I'm really looking forward to tomorrows BNBF Manchester show. 19 year old Marzio, who we affectionately call "The Beast" is looking great and so is Danny. I've deliberately held back the pics of Marzio as I want to do a before and after pic when I have a photo of him on stage tomorrow, the transformation is amazing I promise you. Now, an apology of sorts, I have continually moaned that we shouldn't have wasted billions of £'s on staging the Olympics and whilst I still believe that is true I have to give credit where it's due and admit that it has been brilliant. I'm now going to watch my favourite bit, the boxing finals, which I have been looking forward to for the last 2 weeks!

Sunshine after the rain

Firstly, thanks to everyone who has been in touch.  It's good to be back to being the real me, and yes, it probably would have been cheaper to put a hooker on a retainer, I know, right?  So now lets move forward, life right now is actually amazing, more info to follow in due course!  Next member of the team to compete is Marzio Barberio, at the BNBF Manchester show in 9 days time. I'll do a one week out inspection and photos on Saturday and maybe put one on here then.  Danny will also compete, he actually looks better than he did for St. Albans so I'm looking forward to it being a big day!

Raising the bar

Sadly, Danny didn't place in the top 3 on Sunday, despite most people thinking that he should have. But neither Danny or I have any complaints simply because the standard was so high. How high? Well the lad that won Danny's class went on to win the overall and a junior winning the overall is as rare as rocking horse dung! Danny looked at his best ever on Sunday, I was very happy with him and he will only improve for his next show. I've always been very proud to be Danny's coach, in a world where other people close to me have let me down badly, he never has and he is already working hard for his next show, that is a measure of the mans impressive character. Finally, a big welcome to the newest member of the team, Natalie Mayling, who has a great attitude and a big future ahead of her.

Ready!

Well it's been touch and go but Danny is ready at last for tomorrows show.  He's had to hit the diet very hard for the last week of prep but it has been worth it and he looks much better than he did for this show last year.  At the end of the day all you can ever do is be better than the last time and he is certainly that.  I'll put the result and a picture on here as soon as I have both things and the same will apply to the other members of the team that will be competing in the next few weeks.  As the next few blogs will be full of pictures of others then I thought I'd best just put one last up to date one of me on here!  Finally, great news about the documentary, it will be show on The Community Channel (Sky539) at 9 p.m. on September 1st!

Monday 9 July 2012

Busy season is nearly here!

I know that you wouldn't believe it from the weather but it's the middle of summer now and there are regional contests every weekend at the moment.  After an intense training, posing and inspection session at Olney on Saturday all of the team are on target and there will be news about every one of them as their shows get near. However, Danny is the next up so he is the main focus of my attention at the moment.  As you can see from this 2 weeks out pic he has work to do yet, especially on bringing his legs through, but on Saturday we adjusted his diet and training to make sure that he comes in better than he did at the corresponding fixture last year because we want him to place higher than 5th this time.  He will have a tough 2 weeks no doubt but he is up to it I'm sure and July 22nd at St. Albans should be a good day for him.
